Gallery Wall Project Update #3

It's been 5 months, but I am finally back with an update to my parents' gallery wall!

As a reminder, this is the wall we were looking to fill.

Back in August, we had purchased frames to fill the wall, and had figured out an arrangement that could potentially work in the hallway.

The big delay was because we were waiting on a few back-ordered mats. They still aren't in (and we're about to admit defeat and find new ones...), so on New Year's Day we decided to move forward and hang the frames anyway.

Here they are, ready for new mats and some amazing family pictures!

Can't wait to share the finished wall, hopefully soon!
(No pressure, Mom!)

Gallery Wall Project Update #2

Last weekend, my mom and I were able to sneak in some shopping for their gallery wall project. The intention for the gallery wall is a 'collected over time' feel, and what better place to shop for vintage frames than my favorite antique stores?

Here is the hallway to their master bedroom. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but this wall is just over 8 feet long, and over 9 feet tall. While we want to fill most of the wall at eye level, we also want to leave room to add more frames down the road.

To say the shopping trip was successful would be an understatement. We had so many frames to choose from, that we had to lay all of them out in each store and narrow down our choices. It may be hard to tell from this picture, but this was the arrangement we ended up with when we returned home.

One frame/picture is missing (in the lower left hand corner), but once my mom is able to find it, it will complete the gallery wall. Our next step is to bring all of the frames to Michaels, and have some custom mats made.

Our last purchase was this frame and canvas. This one will be used to create a chalkboard for the entry of their home. The sweet lady who wrapped up all of our items was so concerned about us damaging the canvas of this picture. I didn't have the heart to tell her that we wouldn't be using it!

Not all of the frames pictured above were second-hand: the black frame with the map was purchased new, as well as the two light grey frames. The street sign was a salvage find, but not from our trip last weekend. We spent roughly $200 for 7 of the frames for the gallery wall, and the giant frame for the chalkboard.

I'm so excited about bringing all of these frames to have mats made next weekend - you'd think they were going up in my house! I will say (from experience), that the easy part is over. The hardest part of a creating a gallery wall is choosing the pictures to feature! Have fun, Mom!

Gallery Wall Project

Hi friends!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a wonderful weekend at our nephew's baptism. Such a special day for little B! The ride home however, was a different story. Here is our reminder for next year: take note of what day NASCAR is at the Pocono Raceway... and don't try to drive past it an hour after the race has ended!

Moving on...

Today I'm sharing the inspiration for my parents' gallery wall, and some gifts I've given them to get started.

My love of photography has been passed down from my mother: she has always loved having pictures around the house and albums out on display, to share with family & guests. When my parents purchased their new home pre-construction, my mom had her long hallway already picked out, ready for a gallery wall. They've asked me to help design it with them, and seeing as they are quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of their move in date, what better time to start then now?

I've strategically been giving them "gallery wall" gifts over the last year, knowing they wanted some non-photography items to balance out the wall.

The first gift was an illustration of their old home - my childhood home - from the talented Kelly at High Street Market. Kelly did an amazing job bringing my vision to reality. This is one of my favorite gifts!

The next gift was a vintage map of a town that holds special meaning to all of us. This image is taken from  OldTownMaps on eBay.

Both the illustration and town map will be framed in this frame from The Rusty Roof. Their frames are amazing quality, and are all handmade.

Recently, my mom has been suggesting that we use different frames, rather than the same frame throughout. While I was hesitant to agree with her, after seeing some of these images on Pinterest (which my mom does not belong to!), I have to say she was onto something. Always trendy while still being classic.

I am so excited to be working on this project with my parents! We are headed out this weekend to some of my favorite antique & thrift shops to try and find some great old frames. And I may also be looking for a dresser for our bathroom vanity. Maybe.

Happy Monday!
